Replay Tuesday: Home Grown Halloween Costumes: Do it yourself...
I'm usually in the belief to hold out as long as possible when planning party themes and costumes. Not because I want to procrastinate, but because the boy is 5 and can barely remember what he had for breakfast most days..
When we asked Jake what he wanted to be this year for Halloween, he wouldn't say for a while. Then he finally laid the whopper on us..Kit Fisto
Leave it to my son to find the most arbitrary Star Wars character and pick it for Halloween. ..
Kit Fisto, is a Jedi, and an alien with dreads. I laughed and said "oh, course you do".. Then shot my husband a look of what must have been a mix of panic with added dollar signs.
I Googled Kit and the only costume online was a $50 mask for adults. Um, no and no.. Please don't call me a party pooper, cause I totally believe in home grown. That's the point of this blog. And my husband and I are creative, hell we have 3 art degrees between the 2 of us. But this is a challenge and was going to cost just as much to make as buy in the end. A child does not need a costume over $20 in my opinion.
So my story actually has a pretty lame ending. In the end, as I suspected, when I took Jake to the store to at least get the Jedi cape, he fell in love with an Obi Wan outfit. I quickly put it in the cart and distracted him with a handful of candy corn. Then we beat feet out of the aisle. SO, if you see Jake this Halloween, "icksna on the KitsNay" :) Oh, Charlotte is going to be her favorite princess, Snow White.
But, for those of you who are faced with some off beat costume requests, here are a few ideas from my friend Martha..
Homemade Costumes
PS... I've been busy prepping for baby girl's 2nd birthday. Stay tuned for tons of yummy dessert recipes and decorating ideas..

When I heard from Rick about your conundrum I began to research some of the Star Wars costuming groups. After looking at them for a while….Let’s just say that I’m glad he’s moved on to Obi Wan. However, if that costume didn’t come with a lightsaber and Rick still wants a project….well, I can help him there. lol
