Unfortunately, while slowly shuffling my one free leg through the kitchen (my 1 1/2 year old was attached to the other), I realize my choices were pretty limited on what to serve. Hot dogs and hamburgers or a couple of packets of Ramen Noodles. REALLY? this was my choice? What happened? Didn't I just go to the store?
I settled on the hot dogs and steamed some green beans and actually gave them some soft pretzel nuggets as a surprise guest addition to the plate..BTW, soft pretzel nuggets when labeled up next frozen french fries, actually won out in the nutrition department. YUP, they had more iron, and less fat. Nothing else on the label is worth mentioning, cause really, it's not that nutritious in the long run anyway.
This whole episode frustrated me. I can do better then this. My kids deserve better and frankly, so do my husband and I.
I am totally capable of cooking and serving nutritious meals. But somehow in the chaos of my life and working, it seems to have faltered.
That is why I decided, that today (well tomorrow), I not only need to get my butt to the grocery store, but I need to take back my life and the food I welcome into the house. Food is beautiful, and filled with all kinds of yummy surprises.
Now, I find ways to help my family get on track too. I don't know what that will entail just yet, but I have to start somewhere. Hot Dogs vs. Ramen noodles is not a way to live. It won't be easy, my husband and daughter have a sweet tooth and my son is turning into a pickier eater.
I can do this!. Wish me luck..
